Its crazy how other people can challenge or change the way you feel about life- how things they do or say can completely spin you away from your centre, or create feelings of inner doubt that haunt you.
Another topic which continually confuses me is the way other people perceive you and the way you perceive yourself. I’ve found this concept to have the most impact on my life recently. When others have negative energy or the wrong idea about you- in which you never thought of yourself as that person everyone is saying you are- is when I’ve found myself broken.
Do I conform to what everyone else is doing and what they think is right, or ride with the feeling that comes from within that makes you happy at the time? At the end of the day it may end in heart ache or disappointment, but ultimately won’t that build strength of character and make me one the wiser? It has never been more apparent to me that I do not want to assume the worst of people, nor judge a friend before knowing the details of their situation, and especially not judge a person that I have never met. Everyone deserves a chance, no matter who they are, what they look like or where they live; as long as you do what you feel is right and in doing so treat others with respect.

Yes, to some extent, we need to conform to society and culture. This is the only way to live within a community without being regarded as insane or wierd ... and risk being put away by authorities.
However, to some other extent, we are all unique and we need to be true to ourselves, to the people around us and to God. Thankfully, most societies allow us enough freedom to do this. People are not created to behave like robots.
